Better Days
By: The Goo Goo Dolls
Many wonder why people go through hard times for their loved ones. There are many reasons why they would put their own life in danger to help someone. It’s even more rare to see someone helping a person on the side of the street, a person they barely know. Now that the population on Earth has greatly increased, and there are more products out there, people have become selfish. Selfish for their own welfare, selfish for themselves only.
And you asked me what I want this year
And I tried to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we’ll find better days
Cuz I don’t need boxes wrapped in strings
And designer love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we’ll find better days
Veronica slowly pushed the candle into the corner after blowing it out. She hopped into the soft bed, and pulled the purple covers up to her face. The smell of lavender reminded her of when she was a little girl, and the flowers had been growing everywhere possible.
“Mhhhh,” she sighed and fell into a deep, peaceful sleep.
The fragile girl was roughly nineteen, by the looks of her. Her dark brown hair fell closely to her round face, the unmistakable gleam of a tear rolled down.
“Do…Do you need any help,” Kevin held up a strong hand, trying to push the urge to wipe away the tears that were coming down harder than ever. The girl slowly bit her bottom lip and shook her head.
“Are you sure,” he pushed his calloused hand closer to hers, and looked down at her.
She reached out and grasped his warm hand, as he lifted her light body off the pavement. Five minutes earlier a man had pushed the girl down as he was walking swiftly by, not even bothering to help her up. Kevin had seen the tears spring up to her eyes, and on an act of kindness went to help the poor girl.
Kevin looked down at her ankle, from where he stood it looked mangled and had something seriously wrong with it.
“My names Kevin,” he held out a hand and shook her shaking hand.
The girl hesitated for a moment and then answered him, “Veronica, thank you.”
“It was really no problem, just be more careful,” Kevin’s laugh echoed everywhere, from the way his eyes squinted up to the way it sounded, his laugh could feed a starving nation forever. “I think you might want to go get that looked at, do you mind if I help you out?”
Veronica quickly looked down at her ankle and grimaced, “I appreciate that, thanks.”
Kevin wrapped his arm around her back while steadying her. He smiled slightly while she wasn’t looking.
So take these words
And sing out loud
Cause everyone is forgiven now
Cause tonight’s the night the world begins again
“Are you absolutely sure?” Veronica asked, tears streaming down her cheeks, similar to when they first met, yet a different situation.
Kevin took Veronica’s hands while looking at her feet, “I have to do this, its really important to my brothers.” Tour. One word.
“Just go, it really doesn’t matter to me,” Veronica carefully took her hands back and crossed them across her chest.
“Veronica, please don’t be like this, its something I have no power over,” Kevin wrapped his arm around her waist and held her close with his hand pulling her closer to him.
“Kevin……Don’t forget me,” Veronica sputtered out, kissed him softly one last time, and pulled away.
Hurt filled his eyes, when he realized it was the end, the end of their four year relationship, “Veronica, you can still be mine, its not the end,”
“It is.” And she walked away.
I wish everyone was loved tonight
And somehow stop this endless fight
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Dreams filled her brain as her peaceful sleep was invaded. “No, Kevin I love you.” Veronica woke up suddenly, sweat covered her brow. The room was empty, and so was her heart.
The End.
