Kevin heard the familiar screams of the thousands of girls that had bought, what he considered over priced concert tickets. His heart was thumping beneath his grey wife beater and the sweat was clinging to places he didn’t even think was possible. His fingers were stinging from the continuous guitar playing he’d just participated in, in the last hour, but the smile on his face was the most genuine he’d portrayed in several days. He waved goodbye to the fans that were hyperventilating as their idols acknowledged them, then he turned swiftly and made his way off stage and back to the same old routine of fake smiles for his family. The ecstasy he’d felt while on stage was quickly replaced with one of dread as he followed his brothers towards their dressing room. He was vaguely aware of the constant babble emitting from his brothers mouths as they all collapsed on to a three piece sofa. His body was winding down after an energetic hour long set, but his mind had already stopped whizzing. With no rhythms to concentrate on and no beat to keep in time with, he felt lost. This was the side of fame he could never get used to; being normal. “That was definitely the best show we’ve done all year, right Kev?” asked Nick, nudging his brother. “Sure.” replied Kevin, trying to remember what exactly he’d just been asked. “Did you spot Sarah out there?” Joe asked, grabbing himself a bottle of water off the table in front of them. “Sure, whatever.” answered Kevin. “Looks like Kevin’s had a little too much red bull, huh?” grinned Nick, nudging his brother again. “He’s such a dope.” Joe laughed. Kevin rolled his eyes at their replies; bored of the same old jokes and the same old insults. He was eager to get back on the bus so he could hide away in his bunk without their stupid conversations that left his brain aching. His attention was caught for a moment as a member from their team told them they could head out to the bus and sign some things beforehand. Kevin remembered back when this used to be his favourite part of fame - giving something back. Now, he hated it. The three boys travelled through the corridors of the arena they’d sold out for the past two nights. Joe and Nick were ignorant to the sulking brother clenching his fists into tight balls behind them. The thing that annoyed Kevin the most wasn’t the fact that they were almost always bubbling with happiness, it was that they boasted about their brotherly bond but never noticed how much he was sinking. As they arrived outside, Kevin momentarily felt a burst of excitement in the pit of his stomach. The screaming had managed to remind him of the feeling he got whilst on stage for a split second, but was soon replaced with the annoyance he felt as his privacy was tore to pieces. He watched his brothers dissipate into the crowd of girls who had lingered after the show just to meet them. He could hear the laughter and the chatter but he couldn’t be a part of it. Something was missing from this rock stars dream and until he found it, he was pretty sure he was no use to the band.
