Kevin’s POV
I have known her all my life. She’s been my beast friend since before I can remember. And around ninth grade, I started to fall in love with her. She also fell in love…with another guy. I was heartbroken. But I tried not to let her see how I felt; hiding my shattered heart behind a forced smile. I wanted her to love me so bad.
Loretta’s POV
Ever since ninth grade, Kevin has looked at me differently. His eyes sparkle more when I talk to him, he smiles brighter when I sit next to him, and he laughs harder when I say something funny. Ever since ninth grade. Maybe it’s just that I had started to fall for him.
But then I met Chasen.
He came in hard and fast and swept me off my feet. I would forget about my love for Kevin until I looked into his eyes. Each time I did, I grew a little bit more in love with him. But then Chasen would make my heart race, and I would forget about my love for Kevin again. Every time I would think I love Kevin, I would lie and tell myself that I love Chasen; just so it wouldn’t be weird between us.

Kevin’s POV
I have always been there for her, and I always will be. No matter who holds her heart. I’ve always loved her with all of mine.
Loretta’s POV
About two years after we started dating, Chasen cheated on me. I saw him and another girl in the library “working on a project”. Some project. I broke up with him then and there.
The next day, I found myself on the Jonas doorstep, tears streaming down my face. Kevin has always been the one that I could turn to.
Kevin’s POV
The doorbell rang and I yelled, “I got it!” as I got up from the table where I had just finished eating lunch. I opened the door and smiled when I saw who it was. But my smile faded when I noticed that something was wrong. I immediately enveloped her in a hug and she cried into my shoulder.
“Loretta, what’s wrong?” I asked, rubbing her back.
“Chasen… cheated… on me.” She hiccupped through her sobs.
“Should I kill him for you?” I asked, trying to make her laugh. She smiled and the tears started to subside.

“I’ll always be here for you. You never have to be alone. Ok?” I promised as she got up to leave. We had sat down on my porch and talked until it got dark. I looked up and saw all of the beautiful stars in the sky.
“Look at the stars! They are so pretty tonight,” I whispered in her ear.
“Yeah, they are,” she said as she leaned her head back to look up at the sky. “Thanks for always being there for me, Kev.” She kissed my cheek. “Goodnight.”
She walked down the stairs, and down the sidewalk. But she paused at the mailbox, turned and waved, then walked on after I waved back.
Loretta’s POV
AS I walked down the sidewalk, I realized that I really do love Kevin. As I reached the mailbox, I realized that I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to stay with him, but I didn’t know if he felt the same way, so I decided to keep m feelings secret. I paused to turn back to see if Kevin was still on the porch. He was standing just as I had left him. I waved. He smiled and waved back. And I walked on.

It’s been a few years, and things have changed. Kevin and I are dating. Today we are in the park. Kevin said he had something special planned for today.
Kevin’s POV
I packed a picnic this morning. We have lunch and we sit talking for a little while. Then to her surprise, I pull a ring from my pocket, get on one knee, and ask, “Loretta, will you marry me?”
She replies “yes” and I slip the ring on her finger before stealing a kiss.
