I was given the prompt "teaching the JoBros how to cook" by Ren. This is what resulted.
I don't think it's that great, but I'm behind the deadline and wanted to finish it. I hope you like it Renny!
Enjoy!
If You Can't Take the Heat
“You have GOT to be kidding me,” Ren said, looking over the mess in her kitchen. She’d just returned from grocery shopping, and wasn’t expecting to see three adult men covered in a mix of flour, eggs, and—“Is that bacon grease?”
They looked at her sheepishly, before the eldest of the group nodded. “Sorry about the mess Ren,” he said bowing his head. “We were going to try to surprise you with a well-cooked meal.”
“We only had one problem though.” The middle one added, his hair glued to his forehead due to the paste the flour and eggs created.
“We don’t know how to cook.” The youngest finished, a small blush creeping across his cheeks.
Ren had to fight the laugh that threatened to escape her lips. “You never learned how to cook? Kevin, tell me this is a joke.”
Kevin’s hazel eyes met hers as he told her they weren’t joking. “We just never had to learn, you know?”
“Plus, we kind of got banned from the kitchen after Joe almost blew up the microwave.” Nick added, punching his brother on the arm.
“Hey, nobody told me you couldn’t put aluminum foil in the microwave!” Joe said, raising his hands up in defense. Ren just shook her head and laughed.
“That’s a bad lesson to learn the hard way,” Ren finally replied, hands on her hips. “Clean this mess up. Then I’ll teach you guys how to make something.” With that she walked out of the kitchen and thought of what she’d attempt to teach her culinary-challenged friends.
Time passed quickly, and sooner than anticipated Kevin was walking into the living room to tell Ren they were ready for their lesson to begin.
Ren had to fight back the laughter that threatened to bubble from her lips as she saw how eager and excited her three famous friends looked to be learning how to make a simple meal.
“What are we making?” Joe asked eagerly, bouncing up and down on his heels.
“Spaghetti.” Ren said, after much thought. “It’s easy to make, and I don’t see how too many problems could result.”
If she only knew how wrong she was…
“GET OUT! OUT!” Ren shrieked, covered head to spaghetti sauce. Noodles were mixed in her hair and she was staring in horror at her kitchen. She wasn’t sure how he’d managed to do it, but Joe had somehow caused the pot of spaghetti to explode. Which explained why she was kicking him and Nick (who was laughing on the ground) out of the kitchen. She rounded on Kevin, prepared to kick him out too, but the words died on her lips as she saw that he was busy trying to salvage her kitchen.
He smiled when he saw the look of surprise on her face. “I’m used to cleaning up Joe’s messes.” He explained simply, searching for something to wipe the counters off with.
“Here.” She said, tossing him a washcloth while taking one for herself and they began the process of cleaning her wrecked kitchen.
Ten minutes later the kitchen was pretty much spotless, but the two of them were still covered in spaghetti. Now that the shock and horror of the spaghetti incident was over, Ren was laughing at the insanity of it.
“Only Joe, I swear,” she giggled, tugging the spaghetti noodles out of her hair. Kevin laughed with her, washing his face with a clean washcloth.
“You’d probably kill him if you had to live with him. I thought you were for a minute when the spaghetti exploded. I kept my eye out for you reaching for any knives lying around.”
Ren just shook her head, knowing Kevin was right. Cleaning the spaghetti off her face and arms, she and Kevin made light, friendly conversation. “I should probably apologize to Joe for yelling at him.” She realized, getting ready to walk out of the kitchen.
“Wait!” Kevin called, stopping her in her tracks. He walked over to her, stopping when they were mere inches apart. “You’ve got a noodle in your hair.” He lifted a hand to her hair and gently pulled on the noodle. Ren’s breath caught in her throat at the closeness.
Too soon he pulled away, noodle in hand. A blush on her cheeks, she stammered her thanks. He nodded briefly, and suddenly Ren wanted nothing more than to kiss him.
“Hey Kev?” She said, her voice wavering slightly.
“Yeah?” he asked, looking at her curiously.
“You’ve still got sauce on your face.” Ren said, before closing the distance between them and pressing her lips to his. He responded immediately, his arms wrapping themselves around her as he kissed her back.
They stayed like that for a while, too wrapped up in each other to notice they had an audience, until a rather loud cough forced them to pull away from each other. Joe was grinning slightly, but pretended to look repulsed at the sight of Ren and Kevin kissing.
“I leave you guys to clean up a mess and find you making out? What’s up with that?” He joked, before turning bashful. “I am sorry about the mess Ren. I’m just going to avoid all kitchens from now on.” He vowed.
“That might be a good idea.” Ren laughed, hugging Joe.
Kevin, on the other hand, grinned before adding. “You can start by leaving this one. Ren and I have a mess to finish cleaning.”
