Chapter 19
(Part 1)
Nick’s POV
The stupid smile on my face must have stuck because once I jogged up the stairs and toward the back stage door that Joe was holding open for me, he smirked at me in a ‘I know everything’ kind of way.
“What?” I asked Joe in a much too chipper tone trying my hardest to wipe the grin on my face.
That sure helped disguise the fact I just asked out the girl of my dreams
“I knew it,” Joe said as he followed me through the door and toward the table of snacks in the corner of the small room. My smile widened when I saw Kati brushing her golden hair behind her ear and giggling at something Faye had said. Her glistening blue eyes were fixed on Faye as she listened intently relaxing on the couch with a plate of pretzels.
“Knew…wh…what?” I lowered my voice just in case he was talking about what I thought he was talking about. Biting my lip slightly I walked calmly over to the bowl of mixed nuts keeping my eyes fixed on the white table cloth that hung underneath the row of foods.
Don’t look at Joe don’t look at Joe don’t look at Joe don’t look at Joe…
I figured if he was talking about what I thought he was talking about that I may actually have a chance of keeping some dignity by avoiding eye contact.
“I knew that if I totally led you on to think I had a plan for you and Kati then make you think that I was going to do everything to make that plan successful, then display an opportunity where I could make the plan successful by forcing success which you were depending on, then surprise you by not using that opportunity obviously making you fall for it then force Kati to be alone with you by yourself because you really wanted to but wanted to blame me if it didn’t go right, but if you did it by yourself you would only have to blame yourself yet you didn’t pay any attention to that making Kati end up alone with you then somehow found the courage to ask Kati out in the process because you ultimately wanted to which I knew she wouldn’t say no because I knew that she liked you but you didn’t want to face that because you wanted to make it look like you didn’t like her, which you were unsuccessful at because I ended up tricking you to get you alone with Kati by your own doing then ask her out making it go well, and resulting in a cheesy smile much like the one on your face right now not only because you just asked out the girl of your dreams but you also notice that I did have a plan and I made you think I had a plan and then making you think I didn’t have a plan then really resulting in a plan that was successful, and because you notice that I know everything about you including the fact that during the process you made yourself look like a complete idiot several time like you are doing right now with that frightened look on your face and the breaking of your promise not to look at me.” Joe smirked as he stared at my wide eyes that were fixed on him.
There goes my dignity
Kati’s POV
“Then he fell off the stool knocking his microphone down making me ditch everything I was doing to help him up,” Faye laughed running her fingers through her fluffy red hair as I relaxed next to Gabby on the black leather couch listening to Faye’s story of how she met Kevin at a radio interview where she had taken a small job at the station to observe producing. My mind went blank as the two went on and I couldn’t remember anything that happened over the past few minutes. All I remembered was walking up the stairs of the stage and into the room where Joe was smiling very oddly at me. I laughed inside of myself think what a goofball he was…but why was he smiling. I figured that was just natural Joe Jonas.
“Hey, that was on purpose, just to let you know,” Kevin said sweetly wrapping his arms around Faye from the back gently resting his head on her shoulder and rocking her slightly.
“Sure it was, Kev,” Faye replied with a side smile glancing at Kevin’s head on her shoulder. They were so cute. I just couldn’t get over it. I had always been a romantic…but not as much as I was being right now. In fact, I was freaking myself out a little, but I figured I would enjoy it while it lasted. I loved the way Kevin treated Faye so delicately and how you could just tell Faye was in love with Kevin with just a look at her eyes. Kevin readjusted himself to stand next to Faye quickly grabbing her hand lightly and kissing her on the cheek.
“So…what kind of stuff do you girls like to do?” Faye sweetly smiled as I set my plate of pretzels down on my lap and took a deep breath. Glancing over a Gabby, I expected her to answer Faye because she always knew what to say, but Gabby at the moment was texting vigorously on her phone, most likely to Patrick. I figured she probably didn’t enjoy Faye and Kevin’s fairly long lovey-dovey story I had asked them to tell and after a few lines turned off. Gabby had the attention span of a goldfish.
“Umm…well….” I hesitated to think, I most definitely didn’t want to look like an idiot…especially in front of the Jonas Brothers and their ‘posse’ or whatever…wow…this was going to be difficult.
Well Faye, you see, I have a incredibly interesting life… let’s see, I act, I study, I act like I’m studying, and I study acting...yup that’s about it, don’t you just want to be me?
I took a few deep breaths and bit my lip slightly as if I could come up with something that didn’t sound stupid that way. Suddenly a soft, warm, and chipper voice rang through my ears making my stomach flip and a smile sweep onto my face.
“Kati is an outstanding actress, same with Gabby, you’ll see their names in lights soon,” Nick smiled sweetly at me as he bounced down onto the empty space right next to me on the leather couch. I could hear Gabby snap her head up from her phone to focus on Nick as I sat there not being able to take my eyes off his beautiful, sensitive smile.
“You haven’t even seen us act,” I giggled as I stared into his deep, brown eyes.
“Well,” Nick smirked at me, “I have a feeling you are amazing,” The room fell silent as my mouth went dry. All eyes pierced into Nick’s face which was now looking curiously around the room.
“What?” Nick chuckled slightly as he looked over to where Joe was leaning against the wall. Silence still filled the room as I kept my gazed fixed on Nick’s reddening cheeks. As I sat motionless, staring at Nick who was passing glances to Joe, I felt Gabby lean over and pull my arm to get closer to my ear.
“Flirt a.l.e.r.t,” Gabby whispered in a bubbly voice as I whipped my head around to look at her cheesy smile. Blinking my eyes a few times to erase the dizziness of realizing Nick Jonas was flirting with me, I took a deep breath and rolled my eyes at Gabby trying to convince her that I didn’t care if he was or not. Joe cleared his throat slightly breaking the silence while he adjusted his position leaning against the cream colored wall.
“Acting, that’s awesome, do you act just for fun or do yo…” Faye was cut off by the swinging open of the stage door and the stomping of Frankie’s small feet sprinting into the room.
“Kevin, Joe, Nick, I just beat level 7!” Frankie shouted yanking Joe’s hand that was hanging from the side of him so Joe would lean down and see the DS screen Frankie was holding.
“Sweet, Frankie, let me see,” Nick said clapping his hands together slightly and rubbing them as Frankie finished with Joe and galloped over to Nick. Side smiling at Nick I felt a sharp blow to my rib cage as Gabby elbowed me. Biting my lip I flashed Gabby a glare while she nudged her eye brows up in down obviously trying to make a point that she saw me constantly smiling at everything Nick said. Mr. Jonas walked into the room followed by Mrs. Jonas with smiles plastered on their faces.
“Hello girls,” Mrs. Jonas said brightly smiling and walking over to stand by Kevin and Faye in front of the couch that Gabby, Nick and I were squished shoulder to shoulder on…but I have to say I really didn’t mind if you catch my drift. “It is so nice to finally meet you, the boys said you were pretty amazing especially since you took them in off the streets, thank you so much, my boys can be a bit…of a hassle” She giggled slightly and outstretched her hand to shake ours.
I stuck out my hand to meet hers followed by Gabby repeating my action. I felt Nick’s brown eyes turn toward me as I fought not to look at him.
“Oh, no problem, they were awesome guests,” I smoothly smiled at Mrs. Jonas’s sunny face and curly hair.
She looks a lot like Nick
Shaking my head I cleared my head of the thought and fixed my gaze toward Mr. Jonas who stood next to Joe by the wall.
“You girls were quite the heroes for us, so I really hope you enjoy the concert, then I think we are going out to dinner after this are we not?” Mr. Jonas said in his deep yet warm voice.
His voice sounds a lot like Nick’s voice except his is a bit deeper but the same tone an…
Shaking my head slightly again I made a puzzled look to myself.
What is with all the thoughts of Nick
Biting my lip I took a deep breath then smiled at Mr. Jonas noticing I still had to answer the question.
“Looking forward to it,” I said bubbly as I slightly elbowed Gabby to get out of her quite phase just in case I started to sound like an idiot. Gabby coughed a little from the blow then finally choked out a phrase…well, more like a word.
“Completely,” Gabby coughed rubbing her side and glaring at me.
“Okay, well, boys it is time to prepare for the show, we have about 30 minutes, but I think we’ll manage, so let’s get these ladies to their seats and go while they finish getting the audience in.” Mr. Jonas clapped his hands send everyone to jump straight out of their seats and positions to file out the door. Side smiling at Gabby in excitement I sprang off the black leather couch after Nick watching Gabby speed out ahead of me. Suddenly I felt a light brush of skin along my hand making my head snap over to look at Nick who smiled sweetly with his deep, entrancing brown eyes glistened then linking his index finger with mine sending a surge of dizziness through out my body. That’s when it hit me.
Holy cheese, I’m Nick Jonas’s girlfriend
Nick’s POV
“Okay boys, break a leg…in theatre terms I mean….Joe…don’t actually break your leg please,” Mom giggled kissing each of us on the head. I still couldn’t wipe my stupid grin off my face as Mom walked off to the side and we grabbed our guitars. I probably haven’t smiled this much in my life.
“What are you so happy about, Nick,” Kevin half chuckled as he grabbed his black electric and slipped the strap over his neck white Joe surveyed his microphone.
“I don’t know, I just…” I started soon cut off by Joe’s voice as my smile finally fell for the first time in the last 20 minutes.
“He asked out Kati and now he won’t stop smiling because the plan that I had that he didn’t think I had worked…perfectly I might add,” Joe smirked looking up at Kevin’s widening brown eyes and slightly dropping jaw.
“You what, you kidding me? You asked her out?” Kevin slightly whispered as I sent a death glare to Joe who still had that stupid smirk on his face. Adjusting my guitar strap, I nodded slightly giving into the fact Joe was right…as always.
“Okay, Okay, Okay, I’m feeling it…this concert should be fun, just remember that I’ll be laughing and watching intently when you look down and wink at her every five seconds,” Kevin laughed as I looked up with pleading eyes.
Please don’t, Kevin, I can’t handle two Joes tonight
“Thanks Kevin for your support and sensitivity,” I said to him sarcastically as I finished tightening my guitar strap and turning toward the stage.
“Hey Nick,” Joe said at the same time as Kevin making me snap around.
“Don’t make yourself look like an idiot please,” Joe finished exchanging looks at Kevin telling me that Joe read his mind.
“Go,” I pointed toward their positions in the back to go on stage. I was in the perfect mood, and they weren’t going to ruin it. Not tonight.
Can't wait for part 2! Madeline will be posting that one!
