Chapter 4
Gabby and I sat on the loveseat next that was to the side of the sofa that Joe and Nick. I sat rubbing my hands and biting my lip as I watched Gabby do all the talking.
“So, what is the best place to get food in this little town of Colorado Springs,” Joe asked leaning forward on his knee and rubbing his chin like he was asking us a serious question.
“First off, Colorado Springs isn’t that little, we are a very impressive town that has established itself over the years to an outstanding population of…of…I was never very good with numbers…” Gabby drifted off like she was thinking deeply about something. I giggled at Gabby’s attempt to sound smart.
We had been sitting there for several minutes while Kevin talked to Mr. Jonas on the phone. Gabby and Joe had done most of the talking while Nick continued to look at his shoes, and Patrick tuned and polished his guitar. I was surprised Patrick wasn’t paranoid about Gabby falling in love with Joe in an instant, since he was one of America’s biggest heart throbs, but then again he knew as well as I did that Gabby wouldn’t give him up for the world.
“Oh, well excuse me miss, I didn’t mean to offend you.” Joe said laughing and leaning back on the couch.
“So, why are you guys in this lovely, “impressive”, town of Colorado Springs,’ I asked looking into Joe’s brown eyes.
“Well Miss Kati….” Joe waited for me to fill in my last name.
“Chase,” I added.
“Well Miss Kati Chase, we have a couple of days off before our show here and the rest of our tour, so Kevin wanted to have a ‘brotherly bonding’ time again,’ Joe explained biting his lip and rolling his eyes.
“Well, that’s sweet of him making sure you guys stay like real brothers and don’t get mixed up in all the…stuff…of ya know, being famous,” I replied as Gabby nodded her head in agreement.
“I guess so, if you think about it that way,” Joe said glancing down at Nick who was still gazing at his shoes, “What do you think, Nicholas?” Joe hit Nick lightly in the arm. I watched Nick’s eyes snap wide open as he whipped his head around to look Joe in the eye.
“What?” Nick questioned gently as if he had just woken up from a deep sleep.
“What do you think about Kevin’s brotherly bonding days?” Joe asked in a radio voice holding an invisible microphone up to Nick’s mouth.
“Uh, they’re okay I guess…” Nick said stretching his arms above his head and leaning his head against the back of the couch and sighed. Joe surveyed the look on Nick’s face then looked back at me and Gabby and shrugged.
“So, a couple of very attractive girls must be dating someone,” Joe said as he leaned on his knee again and looked me and Gabby straight in the eyes. Nick sighed a bit and then closed his eyes as Patrick’s head snapped up to look at Gabby. Gabby smiled slightly and then looked at me.
“Spill – the – beans,” Joes said in a girly tone as he widened his eyes.
“Well, Gabby is dating Patrick, and I’m currently single,” I said as Nick’s head shot up and his brown eyes fixed on me. I felt chills being surged down my spine when his eyes landed on me as I fought the heat that rose to my cheeks.
“So you are SINGLE?” Joe asked in the same girly tone and shot his hand in front of his mouth as is he just was offended. Joe shot a glance to Nick as Nick’s brown eyes glared at Joe. I caught Patrick slightly smile and go back to working on his guitar.
Everybody seems to know something I don’t
“I see you play the guitar,” Nick changed the subject and switched his gaze to Patrick after clearing his throat.
“Yeah, I’m okay at it, I guess,” Patrick replied humbly.
“Are you kidding? He’s amazing,” I told the brothers as I motioned toward Patrick’s guitar, “Show em’, Patty!” Patrick adjusted his guitar and cleared his throat.
“Let’s go, babe. It’s not every day you get to play for the Jonas Brothers!” Gabby playfully yelled as she winked at Patrick.
“Alright, here goes nothing,” Patrick said as he took a deep breath and began to play. The music filled the room as Joe’s lower jaw dropped, and Kevin walked in the door. We all froze to the sound of Patrick’s guitar. He was amazing, and you could tell the Jonas Brother’s thought so too. As the door closed behind Kevin, Patrick stopped and looked up.
“That was awesome,” Nick said looking over at Kevin, “Don’t we need a new backup guitar player?” Kevin’s eyes were wide as he nodded.
“Are you kidding me? He’d be great!” Kevin said holding his hand over the microphone on his iphone.
“So what do you say we work out a little arrangement when we get back to the hotel?” Joe asked raising his eyes brows.
“That….That…would be so awesome, dude, thanks!” Patrick said laughing slightly and sternly shaking Joe’s hand. Gabby leaped over to wrap her arms around Patrick’s neck and slightly kiss him on the cheek.
