I Do

Her blue eyes sparkle as she remembers the first time she had met him, the first time he had spoke her name, the first time that he had said I Love You, all the firsts they had shared.
They were twelve when they had met and she was new lost and lonely. Her eyes scanned across the playground looking for someone to connect with someone to hopefully fit in with, someone her age. She was a year older than the other kids, her birthday being so late in the year that they held her back so she was easily the oldest, and tallest in the class. She was maybe 5’2” but she still had a good three or four inches on the next tallest girl in the class. Her eyes stopped spotting a boy who had to be her height standing alone at the monkey bars. She walked over but tripped along the way and he helped her up, his eyes wide in shock at her.
“I’m Keri,” she mumbled looking at her knee which was bleeding.
“Hey Keri I’m Joe,” he has smiled helping her up.
His face formed a frown as he looked down at her knee.
“Are you going to be okay,” he frowned at her?
“I’m tougher than I look,” Keri replied grinning.
That was the day she had met her best friend, and one true love possibly.
At fifteen Keri had just dumped another lousy boyfriend who only wanted her for her looks and didn’t care about her other wise. She rolled her blue eyes and looked at her manicured nails as she listened to one of her friends try and tell her that he was scum. Like she didn’t already know that, she had dated him because he was scum and she had broken up with him because he was scum. She feels two arms snake around her waist and she turns to smile at the person holding her capture, getting ready to be really mad with whoever it was. But then she saw his amazing chocolate eyes, and every mad thought she had left her body. He always knew how to make her feel better and she always knew she could turn to him, he wasn’t one of the popular crowd as she was but he was still her best friend, always had been and always would be.
“You dumped John,” he asked lazily?
“His name was Alex and yes. Why do I keep going out with the boys in this town,” Keri frowned?
“I don’t know but if you don’t quit it soon the only boy you haven’t dated will be me,” Joe grinned at her.
She reached her hand back to whack him on the arm and he just smiled giving her an idea.
“Why don’t I date you,” Keri’s blue eyes were shinning at the suggestion.
“Are you kidding me Kerianne! You know why you are the popular girl with the smoking hot bod,” he said that to make her blush, “and I am the kid who everyone makes fun of cause I’m JJ Jonas.”
“But I like JJ Jonas. Please Joe save me from having another Friday with another bad date. I’m begging you,” Keri said pouting as she turned in his arms.
“Alright Keri but don’t expect the world to except it,” Joe teased.
“Who cares about the world this is for you and me,” Keri replied kissing his cheek and walking off.
Probably that kiss was the first clue that she was truly in love with him.
Friday night approached and Joe started to worry more and more about the date he had with his best friend. He knew that she didn’t like him but he was still excited. It had been a few weeks since they had last hung out alone, she was always on dates and he was busy with his brothers singing. If only he knew that she was going just as crazy as he was. Her clothes were all flung around her room as she looked every piece over trying to find the perfect thing to wear. It hadn’t been an issue before, they had always been casual together, jeans and a t-shirt had always seemed perfect but tonight she was convinced would be different. Finally she decided on a blue tank top that flowed and a pair of black skinny jeans with a pair of blue and black stripped ballerina flats. The nerves that she was sure would be gone before Joe picked her up were still there when her doorbell rang twenty minutes later. With a quick bye to her mom she walked out the door, with a very handsome Joe, who also chose to dress nicely, and into the car of the one Jonas boy who could drive. Keri loved all four of the Jonas boys that was sure, Kevin was her protector and she loved him for it, Nick was her performer always on that stage, Joe was her jester her comedian and her love and Frankie was her baby she loved him as if she had him. Their date went perfect that is until the very end when Keri expected something from him and Joe had nothing for it. It was actually such a shock that she slammed her door in his face and stormed up to her room, ignoring his phone calls.
That was when Joe realized that she liked him.
It didn’t take long for Keri to get over that night but she never got over Joe, dating a string of boys who were nothing to her as he dated few girls who did mean something to him. Finally they were both 18 and prom was around the corner, Keri had been single for almost a full year and Joe the same but his interest was flared at a blond haired girl. Neither had dates for the dance and with a little bow Joe kissed her hand and smiled up at her.
“Keri my dear will you come to prom with me,” Joe asked smiling.
She rolled her eyes at his antics but she knew she couldn’t turn him down. So she just smiled and nodded before walking away from him. He stood shocked, the girl of his dreams had just agreed to go to prom with him this was huge. The night of the dance was hectic for both, Keri almost called Joe and changed her mind about going with him, but she knew she couldn’t, and Joe almost fainted when he realized that it wasn’t a dream. It was on the dance floor where he spoke the three words that she longed to hear.
“I love you Kerianne,” he muttered.
“I love you too,” Keri said her eyes full of stars.
“You do,” Joe asked shocked?
“I do.”
His lips went down on hers in a soft little kiss and she grins up at him.
Her blue eyes fill with tears as she stares down the isle. Her father was at her side the veil of white covering her view of him. But she knew exactly what he looked like, where he was and that she would love him ‘til the end of time. All they had to say were two little words.
