So, this is starring my best friend who isn't a member, but I got the idea listening to "I Don't Wanna Be In Love" by Good Charlotte. I hope y'all enjoy it!
Strobe lights flashed, and the smoky room was overrun with people. The A-list Hollywood party could’ve easily been mistaken for the average club. The music boomed through the rooms, making people’s voices completely inaudible. Though, an intelligent conversation wasn’t the first thing on the mind of most in attendance.
The Jonas boys had just arrived. It was only expected. Everyone who was anyone was there, and they were all looking for a good time. Paparazzi were kicked to the curb. No one was watching, and it was time to let loose. The three had arrived in style, pulling up in a sleek limo.
Nick and Kevin both headed inside with purpose. Nick went to look for Jordan (yes, Pruitt), a friend he knew would be at the party. Kevin went searching for something to snack on. Joe stood near the door, realizing he didn’t have anywhere he needed to be. He smiled at the thought. It had been a long time since that had been a fact in his life. He coolly let out a breath and walked into the mass of people. Standing at the edge of the dance floor, he tried to spot someone he knew.
It was then that he spotted her. She didn’t look familiar, so he guessed that she was a friend of someone famous. All he knew was that as the lights flashed across her silky brown hair, he could swear he was looking upon a goddess. She danced along with those around her, losing herself to the music. The black dress followed her movements, and as her hips moved, Joe couldn’t help but stare.
The punk rock guitar riffs shook the ground. He didn’t know it, but her best friend had seen him staring. The red head made her way over to the enamored Jonas. She stood all of two feet away, and he still hadn’t noticed the body standing beside him. Fed up with Romeo, she tapped Joe’s shoulder, a smirk on her face.
He jumped nearly three feet in the air. He had to look down to see the girl smirking at him. A look of confusion crossed his face.
She yelled over the music, “Hi! I’m Ren.”
Joe swore he would be deaf in the morning.
“Joe.”
Ren shook his hand and looked over to her best friend, Mac. Joe followed her eyes and once again saw that girl. She still looked as far away as she had before, and he could see the beat of the music pulsating through her body. Ren just started cracking up. Joe looked at her strangely.
“Are you alright?”
“I think I need to be the one asking you the same questions. You don’t wanna get drool on your shirt.”
Joe tried to inconspicuously check his chin for drool, though he failed miserably. Luckily, there was none there. Ren had only been joking, at his expense nonetheless.
“Just go talk to her, dorkwad. You seem like her type. Just go dance. That’s one way to break the ice.”
She gave him a small but not so light shove towards the brunette. Apprehensively, he put his hand on her back. Mac didn’t seem to notice, or if she did, she didn’t care. He had a good idea it was the first of the two. He went a bit further and touched her bare shoulder. She quickly turned around, nearly punching him in the nose. However, she stopped when she saw the scared look on his face. The boy hadn’t meant to harass her at all. She lowered her arm, but she still seemed just as defensive. Turning to the side so she could still keep her eyes on Joe. She turned most of her attention back to the music. Again, she was in a trance. Joe decided to be brave, live in the moment as Kevin said. This time, when he put his hand at her side, she didn’t move nor did she react. He knew she was aware it was him, though. He had felt her tense up for only a second. Soon she relaxed into his touch and their movements became synchronized.
After a while, the minimal touch wasn’t enough for Joe. He craved more. He had to get close to this girl, so he spun Mac around. She followed his lead, and she began to pay less and less attention to the music and more and more to the guy in front of her. For the first time, she met his eyes. There was a lot more there than she had expected, and a heck of a lot more than she had bargained for when she let him dance with her. Now there was baggage she’d have to deal with later, but she pushed that to the back of her mind.
She’d come in wanting to escape from every jerk she’d ever had to deal with, leave behind all her troubles. Now, she was just falling deeper than she ever had before. Nevertheless, she kept dancing. A voice in the back of her mind told her to pull away when he pulled her closer, but it felt too right. He was handsome, surely, but that wasn’t why she was dancing with him. He had rhythm. He kept up with her every movement, and matched it with her own. He challenged her, and it had been a long time since anyone had made her feel this way. Usually, if she played the prude or hard to get, the guys wouldn’t chase her. They moved onto the next girl that walked by. But Joe fought for her attention. And secretly, she was lapping it up.
He could see her resolve caving. She began to stop fighting his movements, trying to outdo him, and she really started to move with him. They were two parts to one whole. They danced for hours, never tiring. Soon they were one of a few left on the dance floor. The energy never faded, though. Each motion was fluid. Mac started to pull away when she realized how she had lost her senses.
However, Ren had been watching from the sidelines the entire time. She quickly gestured to Mac that she would be insane if she walked away. Joe couldn’t see any of this going on. He only reveled in the proximity between himself and this girl he had fallen so hard for in only a night and a dance.
Mac just bit her lip, looking between her best friend and the door. She looked down at the ground and thought of everything that had happened that night. This boy had changed her, if only a little bit. Looking into his brown eyes, she thought she might believe in the fact that she could trust him enough to give her heart away. She didn’t notice him inching closer toward her.
The moment he kissed her, she could swear she felt the earth stop. Everything froze and wrongs were set right. Everything was exactly where it should be. As Joe cradled her head, bringing his free arm up to caress her cheek, he realized he had walked into this party with a purpose. He just hadn’t yet known what it was. He hadn’t intended to fall in love. She had intended to do anything but. Still, they wouldn’t take the night for granted. The two were there for a reason, and whether or not it was divine intervention, that dance proved the meeting was no mistake. Standing together, neither could say that they didn’t want to be in love.
Ren just laughed to herself, sitting in the corner. She walked out the door, satisfied with her work. She was so glad she had forced Mac to come with her while crashing the party.
