Prologue
The envelope was rather intimidating. It was as if it were staring me down. My whole future was inside of it. The printed ink held what was to come for me. It was make or break time. I grabbed the letter opener on that table and carefully guided it to do it’s job. I clutched the folded piece of paper and pulled it out. I hesitated unfolding it. I set myself up to expect the worst, but I couldn’t help but hang on to the slight chance that optimism would shine some light one it all. The letter head read, “Harlow Music Conservatory” My eyes stayed glued on those three words for a few minutes. I couldn’t yet bring myself to shift them a little further down the paper. My audition tape wasn’t the best. I knew that, so why would they pick me?
