chapter 1
Nick leaned out the window of the moving Subaru his father was currently driving. The trees passed by quickly, giving off the allusion of a watercolor painting. The air smelt of leaves and dirt, Nick’s favorite. He hadn’t smelt this since last year around this time: Summer Vacation, time for summer camp. Nick had been going to Camp Hawkeye since he was ten, this would be his fifth year, and he couldn’t wait to see his old friends again. Nick pulled his head back into the car, thinking about how great this year was going to be.
Nick’s dad pulled up close to one of the old wooden cabins, and Nick got out to find his Friends Jack and Kaylee. All three of them had been going to this camp for five years, and they had become very good friends over the years. They stayed in touch when they weren’t at camp; emails and phones calls, and occasionally a post card. Nick spotted his two friends sitting on a picnic table Jack looking a bit gloomy. Nick slowly walked over to the old wooden picnic table.
“Dude, what’s up?” Nick asked Jack, who looked up from where he was staring intently at the ground.
“They stole our cabin, that’s what’s up.” Jack explained to Nick as he gestured to a bunch of 9th grade girls, one stood out from all the rest, she had long black hair with blue and green highlights. She was wearing black skinny jeans and a black hoodie; which must have been stifling in. She also had on Nick’s favorite kind of shoes, Converse All-Stars. Defiantly not the type of girl that Nick would usually fall for, but something about her took his breath away.
“Nick, Hello? Earth to Nick!” Kaylee said waving her hand in front of his face to try to get his attention.
“Oh, what? Sorry, what were you saying?” Nick asked pulling his head back into reality. Jack sighed deaply, falling back on the picnic table for a dramatic effect.
“We were saying we better go check out your guy’s new cabin.” Kaylee explained to Nick. Nick nodded his head in agreement and followed Kaylee to the boys’ new cabin.
