k, so this is my first one-shot! plz tell me what you think!!!! The song is The Last Night by Skillet (yes they named their band after a frying pan! they think the name is stupid too, just shut up and buy the album!!)
The Last Night (a one-shot Joe songfic)
You come to me with your scars on your wrist
you tell me this will be the last night feeling like this
“Baby, what happened?” Joe said as he saw Cara running up the street towards him, “I got your call! What’s wrong?” He took her in his arms and she kissed him.
Cara was wearing jeans and a long sleeve shirt, and had a backpack in her hands, “Joe, can we talk, please?” Joe and Cara had been friends for forever. And over time their friendship grew into a crush, then slowly but surely into love. And she trusted him completely.
I just came to say goodbye
I didn't want you to see me cry, I'm fine
“Joe, I’m running away from home. My parents don’t understand me,” she took a deep breath, “my Dad abuses alcohol and beats me, and I can’t tell my mom that he beats me because he said that if I tell her he will kill me and her. So please don’t tell anyone! But I’m running away from home, and I came to say goodbye.”
“Your dad beat you? Why didn’t you tell the police? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because he’s my dad, and I love him no matter what! And I didn’t tell you because you were on tour, and I didn’t want to worry you. Some times he beat me so hard I couldn’t move. That’s why I couldn’t come with your mom to get you at the airport when you came home from your tour!” They heard a car engine on the road a few blocks away. Cara looked over and saw her dad’s car riding down the street. She and Joe dove into the bushes beside them. “Joe, I have to go now! Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine”

Cara’s dad’s car got closer and closer and Cara prayed that her dad hadn’t seen them. She put her finger to her lips to tell Joe to be quite. After what seemed like an eternity to both of them, the sound of the car engine disappeared. They both released the breath they had been holding in.
“Goodbye, Joe” Cara said as a tear formed in her eye.
“Wait, don’t go!” Joe said as she got up to leave. She locked eyes with him and he saw the fear and loneliness behind her beautiful brown eyes. “You can stay with me, at least until you can figure out exactly what to do.”
She smiled and the tears started to overflow, “Thank you, Joe!”

They checked to make sure that Cara’s dad’s car was no where to be seen, then they walked to the Jonas house. When they got there, they were greeted with hugs and smiles from Nick, Kevin, Frankie, Mr. and Mrs. Jonas. Cara put on a fake smile for everyone to try to hide the fact that she was hurting from a few bruises that she had received from her dad the night before.
“Hey guys, Cara is going to be staying with us for a little while!”
“Oh, that is just fine! You are welcome here anytime you want!” Mrs. Jonas had a way about her to where she could tell something was wrong with Cara, but she didn’t want to push the subject quite yet. She just smiled and hugged her.
That night, when it was time to go to bed, Joe said to Cara, “Here you can sleep in my bed and I’ll sleep on the floor!”
“Joe, you don’t have to do that! Come up here!” she said as she patted the bed beside her. Joe got up on the bed and as soon as he sat down, Cara wrapped her arms around him. Joe looked down at her, and just held her. She cried herself to sleep that night and Joe fell asleep with her in his arms, on the bed.

That night Cara had a flashback of the night and morning before in her dream. Her dad had just gotten home and he smelled heavily of alcohol and cigarette smoke. She heard the front door open at 2 am and cringed at what she knew was going to happen next. She knew it was just a matter of time before… her door burst open and she jumped. She looked at her dad and tried not to shed the tears that were quickly coming.
Her dad pulled her out of bed and shoved her to the floor. “I hate you!” he said as he kicked her in the belly. “It’s all your fault that my life is a wreck!” he said as he bent to slap her face. “You are the worst little scumbag on the face of the planet! You aren’t loved by anyone! There is nothing for you to live for! I don’t know why I shouldn’t just kill you now! But then who would I beat next time?” He hit her on the les and arms a few more times then, satisfied went to his room.
She lay there crying on the floor, and all she could think of was that she had to get out of there! She prayed to God that he would be with her dad and that she would give her the strength to run away from home.
The next morning, she woke up on the floor, sore from all the bruises on her arms legs and torso. She packed her back like she was going to school, but instead of books and papers, she put clothes, money, and a few essential items in her bag. She went downstairs to the smell of pancakes. Her mom was at the stove with a pile of pancakes to her side. “Morning sweetheart! How did you sleep?” Her dad, who was sitting at the kitchen table reading his newspaper, shot her a very stern warning look. “Fine, but m arms and legs are a little sore.”
“Ah, it’s just growing pains! You’ll be fine!” he said in a husky voice.
“I have to go! The bus will be here soon.” She gave her mom a goodbye kiss and walked out the door. As soon as she was sure she couldn’t be seen from her house, she called Joe.
That dream ended and a new one began. This one was a lot better. It was about Joe. He was saying to her that he would be there forever and that he would protect her from whatever dangers came her way.

They spent that night and a lot of the next morning in Joe’s bed asleep. Cara was very tired from the night before. Being asleep in Joe’s arms was helping her heal physically and mentally. Mrs. Jonas checked in once at 10 am and Joe was awake, talking to Cara during her sleep. When she opened the door, Joe motioned for her to be quiet. She walked in and whispered, “What is wrong with her?”
“Nothing, she’s just tired.” Joe whispered back. Mrs. Jonas shot him a knowing look and Joe gave in, “She’s had a really hard…life. I don’t want to tell you because that would break our trust. So you’ll have to ask her later.”
Mrs. Jonas respected her son for not telling her Cara’s secret. And she wisely smiled and left. Then Joe went back to talking to her and kissing her face.

Finally, she woke up. “Morning, Baby!” said Joe in a very cheerful voice.
“Morning! How long was I asleep?” she asked looking at the clock.
“A long time! But you needed the rest.” he said with a knowing smile.
“Thanks for letting me sleep in, and for letting me stay with you, and for not telling your mom m secret.”
“You heard that?”
“Yeah, I woke up real quick when she opened the door. Thank you for not telling her. I’ll tell her later today.” She grabbed his hand and squeezed.

Later that day, Joe, with his hand in Cara’s, said to Mrs. Jonas, “Hey, Mom, can we talk to you?” Mrs. Jonas smiled and they all walked into Joe’s room. There, Cara told them both everything. She cried and Joe held her. He was everything she needed.

Mrs. Jonas listened to Cara’s story, then she told her that she would call the cops and keep her name anonymous. The cops showed up at Cara’s house later that day and arrested her dad. He was sentenced to life in prison. He would never hurt Cara or anyone else again.
