Me and You
Ordinary no, really don’t think so,
Not a love this true.
It started in preschool, watching her big brown eyes focused so hard as she colored on her paper. Always using the pink crayon first, it was her favorite. Until one day it snapped in half and I caught a tear falling from her shimmering eye. Walking over I handed her mine,
“Hey, you can have mine” I said as I smiled so big.
“Thanks” she mumbled back as I saw a smile creep across her face, “I’m JenniLynn”
And from that day forward we were inseparable.
Common destiny, we were meant to be,
Me and You.
We got past the awkward stages, dreadful middle school. She was teased for her braces; I was teased for the high pitch in my voice. But we finally we made it to high school. We were still best friends, spending most of our days together. When prom came around, Jennilynn didn’t have a date, and there was nobody else I wanted to go with. I finally mustered up the courage and asked her to go with me. She was by far the prettiest girl there, with her chocolate brown hair curled so perfectly. As I went to drop her off and we pulled up in front of her house, I told her how I felt.
“JenniLynn, ever since I saw you, and gave you my crayon, I have fallen in love with you and your bright smile each day.”
I was afraid of what she would say next, but I swear my heart skipped a beat when I heard her say,
“I love you too Joe”
After those words danced in my ears over and over again, I knew we were meant to be, and we shared our first kiss, setting of fireworks in my heart. When rock star status hit my brothers and I, and flocks of girls would come to us, I gladly let them all know that I was happily taken by the most gorgeous girl in the world.
Like a perfect scene, from a movie screen,
We’re a dream come true.
After high school we were accepted into the same colleges, and continued the love that never stopped growing between us. The rock star in me died down and I decided it was time to focus on the real world. Our love was a whirlwind romance and nothing could burn out the spark that grew brighter and brighter. Guys would make a pass at her, but she would brush them off. And as every day passed and I told her how I loved her, her smile would grow brighter and brighter.
Suited perfectly, for eternity,
Me and You.
I had this day planned in my mind for the past few years. I knew from the moment I saw her and that pink crayon I wanted her to be mine forever. It was finally time.
“JenniLynn, I have loved you for so long. We have been best friends since I gave you my crayon. And then I gave you my heart.” Getting down onto one knee on the dimly light rooftop, as the night stars shined bright, I asked her, “so JenniLynn, will you be mine forever?”
Her eyes grew big as I opened the tiny velvet box exposing a simple band with a 2 karat diamond adorned on top, glowing from the reflection of the moonlight.
“Of course Joe, of course!” she exclaimed as I slid the ring onto her finger and embraced her in the most passionate kiss we had ever shared.
Everyday, I need you even more,
And the night time too.
There’s no way, I could ever let you go,
Even if I wanted to.
Everyday I live, try my best to give,
All I have to you.
Years had passed as JenniLynn and I grew even closer through our marital bond. The day I had prayed for since we exchanged our vows was finally upon me when she burst through the front doors.
“Joe! I’m pregnant!” she was beaming.
I felt my heart flutter out of my body as I ran to give her a hug. The next 9 months were beautiful as we picked out things for our new baby, until she went into labor and I rushed her to the hospital. The hours following were loud and excruciating, but well worth it.
I gave her the gift of life. And together we shared a baby boy.
Thank the stars above, that we share this love,
Me and You.
Our family grew, but not as enormous as our love had grown. We shared the love that grew so bright between us with all of our four children. They went on to marry and create their own families. JenniLynn and I shared our love with them too.
Everyday, I need you even more,
And the night time too.
There’s no way I could ever let you go,
Even if I wanted to.
Ordinary no, really don’t think so,
Just a precious few.
Ever make it last, get as lucky as,
Me and You.
JenniLynn grew sick and I stayed by her side every second of everyday. When she finally passed on, we were all devastated. But I told each one of my kids that love never dies. I told them that only few people could experience the love that their mother and I had, and to cherish everyday with their families. The greatest thing that they could ever learn in life was just to love and be loved in return. Forever in my heart she would remain, and I knew that one day I would see her again in the heavens where we could continue to let our love grow. Our love was one in a million and I knew always that it would just be me and JenniLynn.
Me and You.
