Chapter 1:
"Cael? Darlin'? You ready?" My mom asked, her face sad. I turned around to look at my best friends, Aimee and Kate. My eyes filled with tears as I embraced them in a huge hug.
"Call as soon as you get there," Kate insisted. "And here...I drew this for you." She handed me a roll of paper, tied together with purple ribbon. I looked at her. "Don't open it until you get into the car, you hear?" She gave me a huge hug that pretty much suffocated me.
I turned to Aimee. She had a frown on her pretty face. "I'll miss you, Caz," Aimee's voice cracked. She reached into her bag and pulled out a small gift bag. "This is for you...in the car. When you get bored." Cael looked up at Aimee, the tears threatening to fall.
"Ohhhh guys!" She wailed into their shoulders.
The girls held each other until Cael's mom tapped her on the shoulder. "Cael, we really should get going."
Cael nodded, hugging the girls one last time. "I love you girls. Remember that!"
"And remember that we'll be coming to visit every single freakin' break!" Aimee exclaimed. Cael smiled, knowing that Aimee would take any excuse to go on a roadtrip.
They hugged one last time as Cael got into the car.
"HEY!" Cael heard Kate yell, right before she stepped into the car.
"If there are any hot boys at all on your block, I call dibs!"
"NO FAIR!" Aimee yelled, playfully punching Kate.
"GIRLS!" Cael joked, smiling at her best friend. "I love you!!!!!!"
The girls waved, tears forming in their eyes.
"Buckle up, and let's hit the road," Cael's dad said.
The car, which the three girls dubbed Hefty seven years ago, pulled out of the driveway. Cael looked out the window, imagining her life without her best friends. She couldn't.
