I knocked on the door impatiently. Every precious second passing by, I was getting more and more anticipated. I waited furiously tapping my foot on the concrete ground before the door opened. It was Nick.
“Oh hi Trisha” he said blinking as I breezed past him. He closed the door.
“Where is he?” I demanded. “Where is Joseph?”.
Kevin came strolling in with a lollipop in his mouth. He took it out to speak.
“Upstairs” he said.
I huffed angrily before stomping upstairs.
“Trish! Don’t go up there!” Kevin and Nick cried together.
I ignored them and stormed to his room. I flung open the door angrily. There stood Joe, with a white towel wrapped around his waist, his hair dripping from his face. He stared at me blankly.
“Um.. hi?” he asked confused.
I glared at him. I was in no mood for his games.
“Where is it?” I demanded. “Where did you put them?”
He blinked at me. “Put what?’ he asked.
I growled at him. He knew very well.
“My f*cking cigarettes!” I exclaimed. “Where the f*ck did you put them!?”
It took him awhile to understand. When he did, his confused look quickly turned into an angry glare.
“I want my f*cking pack of cigarettes now” I demanded holding out my hand.
He shook his head and folded his arms across his chest.
“I love you Trish” he began. “And I won’t just sit here and watch you throw away your life. I may be half naked, but I know what’s best for my girlfriend”.
I gritted my teeth together and pointed to the dark bags under my caramel hazel eyes.
“Do you see this?” I hissed. “That’s what happens when I don’t get a smoke”.
He shrugged.
“Now can you please get out so I can change?” he asked slightly irritated.
I smirked at him. If he wanted to play this game, then so would I. I don’t give up what I really want.
“Not until I get my smokes” I replied before plopping myself on his bed. “You want me gone, I get my smokes” I said simply. “You’re only making it hard for yourself. I can be here all day..”
He sighed.
“Trish, I love you so much and I don’t want you throwing your life away because of these smokes” he said. “You’re capable of doing way more, and if you stop now, than we can be together forever” he said quietly.
I was alarmed as my head shot up.
“What?’ I asked.
He sighed. “I can help you get through your addiction” he continued. “We can get through this together”.
I stared into his glossy caramel eyes which were filled with concern.
“And what if I can’t stop?” I asked. “What if I don’t know how to stop?”
He smiled and sat on the bed with me. He wrapped me in his arms and rested his chin on my head.
“Then I’ll help you” he said. “We’ll get through this together. I promise” he said before kissing me on the head.
I smiled.
“I’m scared” I whispered. “I know that I can’t get through my addiction, and I’m scared what will happen if I do. Will I go back?”
He smiled and looked at me.
“Trish, the reason why I chose you to be my girlfriend out of all the other possible girls was because you had that large spark of determination burning in you” he explained. “You wouldn’t give up at the tasks people threw at you, and you always found a way to be who you were, and my Trisha”.
I smiled and kissed his lips tenderly.
“Promise not to give up hope in me?” I asked. “Promise to always be there for me?”.
He nodded and kissed me back.
“Always” he promised. “Forever and always”.
I smiled and leaned my head on his bare chest. I could feel my heart pounding inside me, and the occasional trickle of left over water drip for his hair, onto mine. The smell of his fresh scented shampoo made him smell like strawberries.
“And the reason, Joe, why I chose you as my boyfriend, was because you were the only one who tried to help me” I said quietly as a single tear rolled down my cheek. “You were the only one who made an effort to help me, and you were the only one hasn’t left me alone in the dark yet”.
He lifted my chin up and wiped away my tears.
“Yet?” he repeated. “I will never leave you alone in the dark” he promised. “I’ll always be here for you”
