Chapter One
……….“Hey, Joe,” Nick said, tucking his phone into his pocket. “What do you want for Christmas?” He walked into his brother’s room, sitting down in a chair at the desk.
……….“Will you get me a Power Ranger?” Joe asked, glancing up from his guitar. Nick chuckled. “Alright, alright. I don’t really care. It’s Christmas. The presents don’t matter.” He winked.
……….Yeah, don’t give me that crap, Joe,” Nick joked. “Seriously, what do you want?”
……….“Why don’t you just make me something? We used to make each other stuff all the time.” There was a brief silence before they both burst out into laughter.
……….“Yeah, when we were like five.” Nick sighed. “Whatever, I’ll figure something out.” He whipped out his phone again, and dialed Elise’s number, leaving Joe’s room. Elise was Nick’s long-time girlfriend, and this Christmas, he was going to propose.
……….“Morning, Mr. Claus,” Lise said happily. Nick smiled. Whenever Christmas time rolled around, Lise would start calling him Santa Claus, after jolly ol’ Saint Nick.
……….“Morning, Lise. How are you?” he asked, grabbing his jacket, wallet, and car keys before trotting down the stairs.
………“I’m sensational, and yourself?” she replied, a smile in her voice. Nick hollered to his parents, saying he was going to pick up something and he’d be back later. He was really going to pick out Elise’s engagement ring.
……….“I’m jolly as always.” He started his car, backed out of the driveway, and started towards Kay Jewelers.
……….“That’s good. Have you figured out what you’re getting me for Christmas?” He smiled to himself.
……….“I think so.”
……….“Really? What is it?” she asked excitedly.
……….“I’m afraid I can’t tell you that. It’s confidential.” He pulled into the parking lot of Kay, and turned the car off. “I have to go, are you still coming to dinner tonight?”
……….“Of course. I’ll see you then. I love you.”
……….“I love you, too.” He closed his phone and stepped out of the car. Walking inside, he headed straight for the engagement rings. He wanted something different, for Lise’s said, “Dare to be different,” all the time.
……….“Good morning,” the lady behind the counter greeted cheerfully. There was only one other customer in the store; a young girl, keeping to herself. “Can I help you find anything?”
……….“Maybe,” he said, peering over at the rings. “I’m looking for an engagement ring for my girlfriend.” The first ring he spotted, he knew it was perfect. “May I see that one?” He pointed to the tear-shaped diamond.
………..“Excellent choice,” she said, pulling it out. “A tear-shaped diamond catches the eye in this brilliant ring for the lucky lady. Round diamonds set in 14K yellow gold surround the centerpiece. Two rows of round diamonds add sparkle to the 14K white band. The total weight is about one carat, and the price is $2,799.99.”
……….“I think I’ll take this one.”
……….“Fantastic, I just need you to fill out this form,” she said, handing him a slip of paper. “What’s the ring size?”
……….“Six.”
……….“Alright, I’ll be right back.” He grabbed a pen and began filling out all the questions. After a minute or two, he noticed the girl in the store staring at him. He ignored her, figuring it was just some fan.
……….“Excuse me,” she said, walking towards him. He looked up, and smiled politely. “You’re Nick Jonas, right?”
……….“That’s right,” he said. She grinned.
……….“Good, I’m so glad I found you. You have to get to the workshop immediately. Santa needs you.”
………..“I’m sorry?”
……….“Your parents haven’t told you yet?”
……….“Uhm, no.”
……….“Oh, well, I’m Aubrey. Here’s my card,” she said, handed him a small piece of paper. “Call me when they do.” He nodded, confused, and she just skipped off.
……….“Here you go,” the lady said, returning with a small box. She handed it to him. “Merry Christmas!”
……….“Merry Christmas to you, too.”
